center embroidered CHARITAS, now binding "Philips' New Handy General Atlas & Gazetteer" (1921).

Condition

The needlework sections and the original red velvet have been applied to a new fabric lining to attach it to the book binding. The fabric and the velvet have some losses and fraying at edges. Losses to some of the metal thread exposing silk and wool threads beneath. Some of the metal purl has been detached and is the coils are now pulled apart. Metal clasps are later. The spangles to the front around CHARITAS are lacking while the back retains the majority.
