of archaistic bianhu form, the flattened globular body rising from a splayed rounded rectangular foot to a tall cylindrical neck and lipped mouthrim, moulded on each circular side with a central yin-yang symbol encircled by the bagua ('Eight Trigrams'), the sides moulded with raised bosses, the neck bordered with a raised fillet and flanked by a pair of dragon handles extending to the shoulder, the exterior and base covered with an opaque bluish-grey glaze suffused with a network of grey and faint golden crackles, the base centred with an underglaze-blue six-character seal mark

此抱月瓶,絕美可觀,集雍正帝尚古情懷與至臻美感於一身。雍正時期瓷藝大成,得益於景德鎮御窰廠工匠之不凡技藝與審美提升。本品造型紋樣,皆堪稱典範,充分展現雍正一朝燒瓷技法之爐火純青,所成作品之登峰造極。

此抱月瓶樣式彌足珍貴,可比一類例,曾兩度售於香港蘇富比,分別為1989年11月14日,編號187,及1999年11月1日,編號349。另存一類例,尺寸稍大,售於倫敦蘇富比2006年11月8日,編號173。亦可比較一仿哥窰抱月瓶例,斷代雍正,售於香港蘇富比1978年11月28日,編號207。一件近似之窰變釉抱月瓶例,尺寸略小,售於香港邦瀚斯2015年12月3日,編號1,同場另見一仿汝窰例,署乾隆年款,編號7。雍正朝樣式相若之抱月瓶,玫茵堂另藏一窰變釉例,但無模印紋飾,錄於康蕊君,《玫茵堂中國陶瓷》,卷2,倫敦,1994年,圖版177。東京出光美術館另藏一青花例,落雍正年款,出版於《世界陶磁全書》,卷15,東京,1983年,圖151。

世宗皇帝慕古之情,於本品器形、釉色得以淋漓展現。本品仿摹宋哥窰釉意,釉色米黃,潤膩不透,釉面密布鐵線開片。哥窰,可謂珍稀上品,康蕊君指出,原初,「哥窰」一詞,多見諸中國古文獻,或屬燒成於某處專門窰口之獨特瓷種,然其窰址至今不明。而後,哥窰被鑑賞家詮釋成一類具有特定特徵之瓷器(參見康蕊君,上述出處,卷1,頁213)。論及本品器形,可溯至商朝青銅禮器扁壺,同時代陶器中亦見此型。明初永樂,匠人將之與獨特的伊斯蘭金屬扁壺造型相融合,變化出新。

此器瓶身中央模印陰陽太極紋,其周凸飾八卦紋,突出雍正皇帝對於道家之推崇。「太極」,道家宇宙萬物論之根本,一陰一陽,剛柔相推,福禍相倚;「八卦」為道教基本哲學概念,相傳為伏羲氏所創,以「-」為陽,「- -」為陰,繼而形成八種不同組合形式。器身八卦紋,由頂部起,按順時針方向,分別作:天(乾)、風(巽)、水(坎)、山(艮)、地(坤)、雷(震)、火(離)、澤(兌)。八卦相生相克,陰陽相調,而致天人和諧。伏羲氏,為中華民族之人文初祖,教民做網漁獵,馴養野獸,立嫁娶制度,始造文字以取代結繩記事,傳其見蔡河出龍馬,背有花紋,以蓍草梗臨畵,遂得「八卦」。

Henry Clay Gibson(1830-91)乃十九世紀費城大亨,以經營裸麥威士忌起家,後涉足鐵路、銀行、百貨及房產業。他喜好藝術,尤善收藏。嘗聘著名建築師興建華麗樓房,室內滿置各式藝品,如本瓶便曾陳設於其公寓內(圖一)。
