the vessel finely worked and polished in the form of a squat oval-section body supported on a rectangular base, with four splayed feet in the form of a stylised plantain leaf, decorated on the short end with a small stylised ruyi loop handle, all below a lobed spout extending from an archaistic taotie mask resting on the top of the vessel, the other end worked with a stylised loop handle similarly extending from angular scrollwork, the handle suspending a loose ring, the other sides of the exterior worked in low relief with a pair of stylised zoomorphic wings, the domed cover surmounted with a finial in the form of a stylised bird, the stone of an even pale green colour with icy inclusions

The pot and cover are in overall good condition. There are occasional expected minute nibbles to the fragile extremities, including the handle and spout. The actual colour of the stone is less red than the catalogue illustration.

乾隆皇帝好雅慕古，熱衷於古玩收藏，平定回部後玉料資源充裕，在位其間於造辦處作坊創作了各種仿古玉器。本器便是以青銅器為藍本，再加入了本朝新的元素，體現了乾隆皇帝的獨特品味。

十八世紀時期玉器的工藝，精雕細琢，不惜工本，仿古玉器的製作數量及質量均達高峰。玉匠們通過研究古代青銅器，仿其神韻，增添新意，創作玉器。青銅器的仿製由來已久，至乾隆，與皇帝本人對古玩的愛好、尊重及仰慕有莫大的關係。內府工匠以宮廷收藏古器為藍本創作，如記載於《宣和博古圖》、《西清古鑒》中之藏品。

本器造型，或以兩種高古青銅酒器為藍本，進而組合創新。器腹摹西周晚期至東周早期鳳式酒器，見一例，原為安思遠收藏，售於紐約佳士得2015年3月17日，編號5；一紋飾稍簡單例，售於紐約佳士得1999年3月22日，編號194。本品鳳式器腹更顯自然，流置胸前，兩側翅膀翻卷，蓋飾瑞鳥紐鈕。此器下承四矮足，亦為東周青銅器之樣式，一例為紐約大都會博物館館藏，見Jessica Rawson，《Western Zhou Ritual Bronzes from the Arthur M. Sackler Collections》，檢橋，麻薩諸塞州，卷2B，圖版114.2。

本品造型獨特，可見乾隆朝工匠的高超仿古工藝。見一類似蓋壺，頭及底部雕工略異於本器，雙足跨於秀石，售於倫敦蘇富比1966年6月2日，編號346；北京故宮博物院藏一例，流出龍首，腹呈鳳式，見《故宮博物院藏品大系．玉器編 》卷10：清，北京，2011，圖版128；另一例售於香港佳士得2011年6月1日，編號3642。可作比較一見鳳式茶壺，售倫敦佳士得2011年6月1日，編號，再售香港佳士得2011年11月30日，編號3028。
