Condition
The waterpot is in overall good condition with expected surface wear and minor bruises and nicks, particularly to the mouthrim. The catalogue illustration is redder than the actual colour of the stone.

本品雕工精妙，三羊圍憩水盂一周，閒適自得。其玉質溫潤，黃褐相間，藝匠因材巧思，用玉色之變，揚長避短，所成靈動逼真。其尺寸色澤俱佳，實屬難得。水盂小口鼓腹，圓潤流暢，雕羊昂首曲角，體態豐腴，盡顯祥瑞，令其使用之餘，兼富愉悅美感。
「三陽開泰」，為玉雕普見題材。然作水盂，並非尋常。一相類雕螭龍水盂例，可資比較，錄於 Robert Kleiner，《Chinese Jades from the Collection of Alan and Simone Hartman》，香港，1996年，圖版50，售於香港佳士得2007年11月27日，編號1501。另比較一鴛鴦水盂例，售於倫敦蘇富比1974年10月15日，編號35。另見德安堂雅藏一「三陽開泰」例，造型略有異，雕羊一大兩小，刊於《玉緣：德安堂藏玉》，故宮博物院，北京，2004，編號82。再參考一例，為 Robert von Hirsch 舊藏，售於紐約蘇富比2015年3月17/18日，編號298。

明朝以降，黃玉尤為文人學士及鑑賞家所鐘睞。明人高濂於其《燕閑清賞箋》言：「玉以甘黃為上，羊脂次之」。三羊紋樣，常配東昇旭日，象徵「三陽開泰」，寓意冬去春來，吉祥亨通。「三陽開泰」始出《易經》，所曰：「泰，小往大來，吉亨」。
