上款：「馥亭」即北京著名中醫段馥亭（1891-1959），河南人。上世紀二十年代末與施今墨、劉潤甫等創辦華北國醫學院，醫術高超，譽享京華，與張大千昆仲、于非闇等書畫家均交稱莫逆。

註：于非闇於一九四二年寫有〈荷花翠鳥〉贈段氏，題曰「壬午仲夏，患濕熱下注之症，兩足腫潰，月餘不癒。經妙手醫治，兼旬而瘥，寫此為誌。」由此可知，二人因病結緣，日後往來不輟，屢有作品寫贈。

本幅寫喜鵲兩雙，棲石休憩，中有溪流穿插，黃葉、紅茶、臘梅、青竹，分置四周，既點秋景，亦具「四喜」之意。其畫工精細，設色鮮麗。畫長逾六尺，三紙接成，狹長尺幅如此，在畫家作品中鮮見。
