註：本冊十開，尺幅大小略異，八開具「蘭池」上款，兩開上款「梅盦」。其中四開款印皆全，餘下者未有鈐印。由此視之，似從兩個來源滙集成冊，即使贈「蘭池」者亦未必一氣呵成寫之，極可能於相若期間分批完成。贈「梅盦」兩開署年「甲戌」，即同治十三年（1874）。時任氏寄寓春申，已聲名鵲起，由扇莊為其接單，作品多折扇、團扇，應屬市場最歡迎的品種。由上款稱謂顯示兩人與任氏均非深交，或僅客戶關係而已。按作品題材、畫風、題款書法及選用物料，可推斷為同年不同日子內逐一寫成，經後人再集合成冊。這段時期正任氏創作成熟期，並於十里洋埸、名手林立的環境下嶄露頭角，筆下雖曰商品，但無不傾力為之，水準平均。他的雙鈎花鳥尤見功力，精工細繪，勾劃準確，狀物傳神，加以色澤艷麗，配合金箋更獲時人嗜愛。本冊各開俱備上述特點，個人面貌清晰，海派一代大師的地位確立無疑。
