此幀係缶翁八十二歲時所作，老筆婆娑而意趣特妙，殊為難得。

Condition
-Paper has turned greyish due to age. A few spots of light foxing can be found at the top of the painting, which can be improved by restoration. Otherwise, generally in good condition.

註：畫家取窄長篇幅寫菊石以作自壽，有別於筆下一貫所出。畫中寫素菊仰首上引，枝如幼藤，見軔性，細而不弱，淡墨寫片石孤處，狀昂然，寡而不薄，倆相倚持，具堅貞之意。寫畢，自覺不凡，以為靈妙，遂質諸「瞽居士」。老缶晚歲在畫上屢有提及「瞽居士」，或謂試其製墨，或與斟酌畫藝，亦有詩贈之，可見交誼菲淺。
復有潘天壽於一九六三年題跋，他早年畫風受缶老影響，復得其稱讚，具此淵源，故請題於上，亦稱相配。
畫上具「惠然所藏」印，乃出自朱惠然（1923-1996）舊藏。朱氏，山東人，早歲加入共產黨，服務於魯省地區政府，後參與新聞宣傳工作。四九年後歷任廣西省政府要職，一度出任駐上海辦事處主任。他好書畫，藏品具潘天壽、程十髮等題跋，亦得畫家送贈，多見於六十年代初期。
