上國衣冠付楚囚,連天風雨壓神州;
可憐正氣銷沉久,但欲招魂賦遠遊。
行歌當哭又高呼,一片傷心入畫圖;
多少興亡思往事,河山人影兩模糊。
善子先生繪〈正氣歌〉,奔走海內以先國家之急。今將有事於歐美,於其行也,詩以送之,即乞教正。戊寅冬。弟李芷谷。

天留一老氣秋橫,十萬胸羅畫甲兵;
今古忠良形筆墨,笑談肝膽見精誠。
馬翁鞍據英雄在,鄭俠圖開血淚成。
報國尚餘七寸管,撐持兩大作干城。
善子詞丈囑題畫軸,謹書一律以揚高風,並誌鴻爪,即希兩正。民二八,七七抗戰紀念日後六天。弟陳伯清。

-Mild creases on the painting, stains on the frontispiece, stains and paper crack on the upper right of the annotation can be found, which can be improved by restoration. Otherwise, generally in good condition.

註:善子先生早歲參加革命,又親預護國之役,兩度毀家。功成,不謀爵祿,不涉官場,潛心繪事。惟謀國之熱忱,仍無日不繫於心。「七七事變」,先生於安徽郎溪化畫筆為鋒刃,寫成〈正氣歌像傳〉共十四幅,包括歌頌歷代先賢十二及文信國公像二,以表彰民族氣節,激勵民心,持志不屈,共赴國難。畫畢,巡迴各地展覽,在報刊上登載,並付梓成書,影響極廣。
本幅同取〈正氣歌〉入圖,卷首見文天祥閉目而坐,傍有矮几,置水盂、硯台、筆管,皆備作揮毫之物,上鋪素帛,惟尚未有絲毫墨迹,蓋於篝火幽冥下,正神思凝注於下筆思索之際。
上方則有竹簡、筆管、鐵、旄節,如虛懸於空,即「在齊太史簡,在晉董狐筆,在秦張梁椎,在漢蘇武節」,諸物俱代表歌中先賢大節凜然之故實。佈局如此,可見畫家以高度概括之象徵手法,將前述〈正氣歌像傳〉中十四幅作品濃縮為一。畫中描繪文信國公下筆思索為實,喻歌中內容之物似飄渺於其想像境界中則為虛,寫實與虛擬共存。善子以傳統白描線條寫之,惟構想之妙,異乎尋常。題曰「敬寫於霞飛輪中」,或為乘法國郵輪「霞飛號」赴歐洲參加展覽途中,成此小卷。
卷首附李寶常(1869-1949)楷書恭錄〈正氣歌〉全篇。李氏,湖北荊州人。曾官費留學日本,後入張之洞幕。入民國,辭官歸里,以詩書自娛。他與李瑞清、曾熙為舊交,與善子、大千昆仲亦有過從,作品常得其題字。
