of rounded rectangular form, the cover carved in low relief with six chilong grasping lingzhi, writhing among scrolling clouds, the box similarly decorated with six further chilong, the exterior later painted red

The box and cover have been applied with red paint to imitate lacquer but it can be removed. It appears to be otherwise in generally good condition with the exception of a couple of tiny flakes to the interior rim of the cover, some wear and dents to the lower corner of the box as well as excepted age cracks surrounding the base.
