罕有彩色細繪北京鳥瞰圖，標示紫禁城、皇城及內城之主要街道、建築、寺廟之名稱位置，以及地勢與防禦工事。

北京城沿北向南中軸線而建，劃分為四道城池：紫禁城、皇城、內城、外城。本圖展示其中三座，紫禁城坐落中心，四周有巨幅圍牆，牆上共四座城門及四個角樓；紫禁城外圍是皇城，城內西面有三座池，從北到南排成一列：北海、中海及南海。皇城外圍有護城牆，牆上六座城門；再外圍是內城，又稱京城或大城，內城牆周長15英里，高50英尺，牆基寬65英尺。

中國國家圖書館藏一幅與本品相似的彩繪絹本北京地圖，畫面包括外城。該圖最近獲邀展於澳洲國家圖書館展覽《Celestial Empire: Life in China, 1644-1911》（2016年1月2日至5月22日）。
