Condition

This work is in very good condition overall. There is minor undulation throughout the composition. The sheet is affixed to the backing board throughout the verso. There is a minor crease in the lower right quadrant 8cm from the bottom edge, visible upon close inspection. Framed under Plexiglas.

不定形日本藝術家今井俊滿與堂本尚郎,為具體派與不定形藝術倡導者米榭·塔皮耶之間的互動扮演了重要角色。他們於五十年代移居巴黎,不但是定居海外生活工作的日本藝術家,兩人更是不折不扣的不定形藝術家。

今井俊滿生於一九二八年,比堂本早兩年於一九五三年動身前往巴黎。今井在山姆·弗朗西斯介紹下與塔皮耶成為好友,由此逐步發展成不定形藝術運動的一員,是為當時日本藝術家第一人,對不定形藝術的海外傳播起到了重要作用。比如今井曾經負責為一九五六年日本舉行的「不定形藝術」展覽挑選展出作品,還組織塔皮耶、山姆·弗朗西斯與喬治·馬修到自己的家鄉日本作客。具體派能夠得以與歐洲的相關藝術運動交流互動,今井居功至偉。《旭日初升》於一九六七年創作而成,藝術家在畫布潑濺厚塗顏料,彷彿藤蔓蜿蜒,捕捉光線。紅色與金色佔據畫布,令人聯想到熊熊烈火,猶如火山爆發,開闢原始世界。
