  • Gilt-bronze

Condition

The figure heavily cast, the base sealed. The main figure, deer, birds and base are cast in ten separate parts. Around twenty attributes are missing in Vajrabhairava's hands. There are traces of red and blue pigment to the faces and to the hair. There are several rectangular casting flaws/ patches contemporary with the casting of the piece on the flat part of the base. The letters VR are written in white on the base plaque, referring to Rafaël Verbois (1885-1979), a Flemish priest living in China whose collection is now in the Ethnographic Museum in Antwerp.
