本品之紋章為英國外交家、政治家查理斯·惠特華斯（1752-1825年）之家族紋章。1800年，惠特華斯獲封男爵，其後於1813年獲封施他佛郡阿德巴斯頓子爵，最後於1815年晉身為惠特華斯伯爵。惠特華斯從軍二十年（1772-1783年），後從事外交，任職駐波蘭全權公使（1786-1788）及駐俄羅斯特命全權代表（1788-1800），後分別派遣往丹麥（1800）及巴黎（1802/03年）執行特別任務。他亦曾任職貿易局成員（1807年至逝世止）及愛爾蘭總督（1813-1817年）。惠特華斯勳爵於1801年4月7日與阿拉貝拉·戴安娜，多實郡公爵夫人（1767-1825年）成婚，1825年5月13日於諾爾莊園逝世，身後並無子嗣。
