Condition
A small section of the footring appears to have been slightly polished. One bat has a minute nick to its wing. There is also some slight wear to the bottom left corner of one ruby-red overlay frame, but the overall condition is otherwise quite good.

These circular or oval monochrome framed panels are among the repertoire of standard palace decoration. See for example the blue glass bottle attributable to the Kangxi period (Sale 8, lot 1041). The design of a circular panel defined by a raised beaded frame on each main side probably translated into a cameo-overlay version during the Qianlong period at the latest. It may well have continued as a palace design thereafter, being repeated from time to time.
Although the design here is simple, the bats on the shoulders are identical in composition and well drawn, and the carving itself is excellent.
