Condition
The bottle has a tiny nick to the outer lip, two minute bruises and barely perceptible nick to the footrim. The inside painting has been well preserved.

This painting is close in style to Zhou’s latest dated bottle, from the spring of 1893, but it is also very similar in style and colouring to Sale 5, lot 72, undated but attributable to 1890. This is a softer rendition, which better fits the later example, and we are inclined to believe that this was painted either in 1892 or very early 1893, but have left an extended date range because of the bottle attributable to 1890.
Whatever its actual date, it is another of Zhou’s masterly late landscapes, with an intriguing combination of his blue and green landscape styles giving the scene an irresistible summertime feeling.
