Acquired in London in the 1960s (by repute).

A dry lacquer seated figure of Buddha dating to the late Ming dynasty with similar treatment of the drapery and hands was sold at Christie's New York, 21st September 2004, lot 140. Compare another dry lacquer figure with similar posture to the figure present and dated to the early Ming dynasty, sold in these rooms 19th March 2013, lot 112.
