A closely related example from the Brian McElney collection is illustrated by Ip Yee and Laurence C. S. Tam, Chinese Bamboo Carving, Part I, Hong Kong, 1978, pl. 104, where the authors note that this type of horn-shaped cup would originally have had a metal lining. Another example is illustrated by Paul Moss, The Literati Mode. Chinese Scholar Paintings, Calligraphy and Desk Objects, Sydney L. Moss Ltd., London, 1986, p.168, no. 49.
