The canvas has a recent relining. The paint surface is dirty and uppermost paint layer has been worn. There are two small chips in the paint surface along the upper margin, mostly hidden by the frame. There are small discoloured retouchings throughout, visible to the naked eye on close inspection. Ultraviolet light reveals small scattered retouchings throughout the picture in both background and figures, including the fleshtones of the Christchild and the face of the Virgin. These have been well- executed and do not interrupt the overall quality of the picture. This lot is offered in a heavy carved wood frame, painted dark red and brown, with a knocks in the upper right and lower left corners, but otherwise in good condition.
