Condition

Venetian School: The canvas has a firm relining, resulting in a flattened paint surface. The paint at the upper left is on the point of beginning to flake. A repair approximately 1 by 1 cm is visible on the lower part of the ear. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals an uneven varnish and scattered retouchings throughout the face and the hair. Views of ruins: The canvas has been relined. The paint surface is dirty, with the whites having discoloured. The colours remain reasonably strong. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals very few small scattered retouchings in the sky. This lot is offered in a gilt molded frame in good condition. Noli me tangere: The panel is uncradled. The paint surface is largely secure, with a few small specks of paint loss at the upper right. The grain of the wood shows through the paint as a series of vertical lines throughout. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals scattered retouching throughout. The lot is offered in an integral frame with a few knocks.
