Anonymous sale, London, Sotheby's, 28 October 2010, lot 90.
Condition
The canvas has been relined, which has not overly flattened the paint surface - much of the original impasto remains in tact. The varnish is clear and even. There is a shallow surface scratch, measuring 10 cm., across the sibyl's forehead - (visible in the catalogue image). Inspection under ultraviolet reveals restoration to a 4 by 10 cm. patch of damage in the lower left corner; strengthening in some of the darks of her drapery and around her hand; some retouching, upper left, including two 2 by 3 cm. patches; and some tiny pinpoint retouchings on the side of her nose. Overall in very good condition.
Offered in an elaborate carved, modern gilt frame in very good condition.
