金碧交映，天意人境

《湖光荷影》展現黃冠餘成熟時期的藝術風格。經過八、九○年代遊歷歐美的探索，藝術家深得感悟，歸國之後銳意閉關十年，潛心創作，終於在抽象與具象之間開拓出一條個性化道路。2007年開始，黃冠餘以嶄新的「荷花」系列重現於公眾視線，將現實中似有若無的境界，幻化出美輪美奐的畫面。他在東方與西方之間把握到藝術的通感，將心目中感受到的景觀，以獨特的表現方法，創造出自出機杼的半具象作品。透過畫中的蓮蓬和蓮梗，《湖光荷影》予人明確的具象指向，蓮蓬、蓮梗彼此交疊，勝似峰巒起伏，掩映對話，突顯線條之硬朗，然而藝術家亟欲渲染的，更是背景上所象徵的氣氛，其不僅毫無蕭索之意，反而熠熠生輝，有溫度，有光明，有季節，有時份，如仲夏，似初秋，一派悅人心脾的天趣意境。
