Condition

The work is in overall fair condition. There are small areas of frame abrasion and associated flaking along the lower bottom edge. Under UV light, there is no evidence of retouching.

在煙水迷濛中,探索抽象

《江南》是黃冠餘從具象寫實過渡至半抽象的轉折關鍵,其呈現江南水鄉一角,畫面的民居小巷景觀清晰,具象元素卻被濃烈詩意和戲劇效果所融化,予人神秘、奇情的氣氛,斑駁的油彩肌理,將古老的粉牆玄瓦,表現如青銅器上的鏽蝕;饒富歲月磨洗的滄桑感,顯示對於時間的思考;迷離的光色變幻源自現實觀察,卻在油彩變幻之中滲透著悠悠詩意。「用自己具的形象語言,形式語言表達自己的感受,意境,情節……這與空洞地、虛假地自欺欺人的玩弄不是一回事。」這是黃冠餘至念不忘的恩師吳冠中的話語。從《江南》開始,黃冠餘在風景主題上創造出自家語言,畫面效果往構成(composition)跨越一大步。其於畫面的平面化追求,可說是針對蘇派寫實的一種強烈反彈,所以在數十年的繪畫歷程中,無論具象抑或抽象,始終既不放棄油畫色彩的豐富和潤澤,又力求簡化的層次感,若與中國美術館收藏的黃冠餘寫實作品《水鄉》相比,更可見藝術家在風格上的重大跨越。

《江南》與《我們正年輕》,都是黃冠餘八○年代的力作,更曾參加1982年的「全國舞台美術展覽」。此次展覽由中華人民共和國文化部、中國戲劇家協會、中國美術家協會、中國舞臺美術學會在北京中國美術館聯合主辦,旨在展示新中國三十年來舞台美術創作之成果,當年參展者1300人,作品1300餘件,期間還舉辦了專題報告會、座談會和技術交流,參與者將近一萬人,盛況蔚為巨觀,顯示了八○年代中國藝壇的活力。黃冠餘以此兩幅作品參展,足見其代表性與重要性。
