This portrait is executed on an oak panel which has been formed in the shape of an oval. The panel is flat, stable and with no cradling on the reverse. The paint layer appears to be healthy and is covered in a dirty varnish. On top of the varnish is a false signature which was probably added some time in the 20th century. With a cleaning and fresh varnish the colors would brighten significantly and the picture would be ready to hang. Under UV light no significant retouches at all are visible though the full signature does fluoresce very clearly.
