Condition

The carving is in overall good condition with just minute nicks to the extremities including its toes and mouth. There are also small flakes and minor losses to the areas around the eyes and edges of the inlaid pupils respectively. There are also expected age cracks across the toad's body. There are two functional apertures, one open at the top, one later sealed to the underside, possibly done during the production. There is also a small chip to the leg of the smaller toad. The catalogue illustration is redder than the actual colour of the bamboo.
