Condition
As is expected with lacquer of this age and type, there has been overall restoration to vertical splitting of the softwood panels, to lifting lacquer which in this screen is visible in the uneven surface with primarily horizontally oriented crackling, there is overpaint to areas of lost lacquer and pigment and the gilt has been retouched. A clear layer of shellac has been applied to the panels to help stabilize the lifting lacquer and flaking pigments.
