heavily potted, the body with rounded sides tapering towards a narrow splayed foot, the wide mouth with a short neck and lipped rim, freely painted in dark iron-brown on a creamy-white ground with three large cartouches enclosing a scholar in a landscape, a crane, and a lotus blossom, all between concentric and wavy lines at the foot and shoulder, the rim and base left unglazed revealing the buff-colored body

Condition
The mouth rim has been polished. There are small flaws on the neck, where the some of the slip appears to have flaked off. There is a shallow chip to the glaze on the shoulder, some polished chips around the protruding flange encircling the base, a chip and minor nicks to the edges of the footring and the foot appears to be polished. There is a hairline crack through the footring.There are minor glaze and firing imperfections including tiny glaze flakes, grit adhered to the glaze, potting lines encircling the body, and light scratches to the painted decoration, as well as the expected signs of wear.
