描述

  • Ceramics
the ovoid body with seven lightly incised vertical lines, the shoulders applied with a vigorously modeled dragon in high relief coiling around the cylindrical neck, rising to a cup-form mouth with lipped rim, supported on a slightly spreading foot, covered overall with a semi-translucent pale bluish-green glaze, stopping just short of the unglazed foot rim

Condition

The mouth rim is slightly uneven and with two small glaze frits, some burst glaze bubbles and minor crazing. The dragon coiled around the neck is missing a claw from one of its feet. The foot rim has several small chips, the largest measuring approximately 1/2 inch. Please note there is a triangular TL test to the inside of the foot ring and results from the C-Link Thermoluminescence Analysis Report no. 5486AA19 are consistent with the dating of the vase.

拍品資料及來源

The present example is notable for its restrained outline and fine potting. Similar examples of this form usually have a crimped gallery along the shoulder such as the one in the Barlow collection illustrated in Chinese Ceramics, Bronzes and Jades in the Collection of Sir Alan and Lady Barlow, London, 1963, pl. 107. Others also include some painted decoration such as the example illustrated in He Li, Chinese Ceramics, A New Comprehensive Survey From the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco, London, 1996, pl. 299.
