The four-character mark dan er bu yan may be translated as 'simple but desirable'. A hu-form vase with the same mark, dated to the 17th century was sold in these rooms, 20th March 2012, lot 79. A censer of the same form and size with the same mark, dated to the 18th century, was sold at Christie's London, 18th June 2002, lot 113.
