本品碩大沉重，巧雕山林隱士，玉材應採自和闐及莎車等盛產玉材之地，十八世紀中，乾隆帝西征准噶尔之後。乾隆早期玉材稀小，以至高宗數作御詩，詠嘆其憾。然自乾隆平定新疆各部始，至此其地所產良玉歲歲朝貢，源源不絕。
北京故宮博物院收藏一例，尺寸較小，紋飾相近，圖見《故宮博物院藏品大系：玉器編8》，北京，2011年，圖版113；另一例出自Avery Brundage收藏，現存於舊金山Asian Art Museum，載於René-Yvon Lefebvre d’Argencé，《Chinese Jades in the Avery Brundage Collection》，舊金山， 1977年，圖版LXV；Oliver Smalley 夫人收藏一例，刻詩文一首，曾展於《玉緣：德安堂藏玉展》，故宮博物院，北京，2004年，編號55，後售於紐約蘇富比1989年9月28/29日，編號451，另一例售於倫敦佳士得1957年10月28日，編號87；再比一例，尺寸較大曾展於東方陶瓷學會《Chinese Jade Throughout the Ages》，倫敦維多利亞與艾伯特博物館，1975年，編號452。
