Good overall condition, with just minute nicks and insignificant chips to the base and mouth rim (most severe - a shallow scale chip of 1cm). General surface wear and scratching.

紫檀筆筒，因其材珍物稀，受文人所惜，置文房書案，墨香相伴，高品清幽。此筆筒，滿題詩文詠其質樸器雅，鐵劃銀鉤，見證古今文心妙同。

古研主人，史書無記，生卒不詳，據銘文，筆筒原屬其藏。上刻古研主人辛丑冬月隸書詩文，珍其紫檀佳材雅形，有句曰：「惋惜重摩挱」。後入清人黃掌綸之藏。掌綸，號吟川，篤學無倦，擅金石篆刻，工詩書畫。著有《吟川詩鈔》與《春倪草堂集》等。嘉慶年間，清朝官員台灣府儒學訓導駱鐘球曾得此器，上鐫詩，詠「良材經巧製…樸質真堪賞」。筆筒上另有三人題字，其中二人，應乃李維翰（1887-1940）及王兆畿（1907-89）。李維翰，字墨林，學通經史，擅書詩文，民國年間政績突出，官至河北省獻縣縣長、滄州行政督察專員等。王兆畿，字光邦，原任教職，民初棄教從戎，後遷台定居。最後一人，署名莘渠，惜典籍無錄。
