知名水墨藝術家李小可自幼便跟隨父親李可染學習藝術，以動人心魄的現代寫實主義山水畫作著稱。其先後於北京畫院及中央美術學院就讀，1980年代參加日本著名畫家加山又造先生為期兩年的研修班。李小可在海外發展出一套獨有的繪畫風格，充滿浪漫主義和懷舊情懷。
《家園》系列以俯瞰的角度描繪了北京密集的胡同居民區，人們或散步或騎車穿梭在狹窄的街巷當中，足見藝術家對往昔的留戀之情。北京的胡同歷史可以追溯到元代，促狹的巷弄間遍布庭院、商舖與食肆，是北京城最具特色與風情的景觀。然而中國快速的現代化進程已經使一條又一條古老的胡同消失在歷史的車輪下，所剩無幾。此作是李小可《北京》系列的一部分，藝術家以此抒發自己對當年就讀的老北京的懷念之情。
