顧媚是香港為數不多的知名女性現代水墨藝術家之一，生於廣州，1950年移居香港，現居加拿大。她於1962年起開始學習繪畫，師從趙少昂、胡念祖與呂壽琨等名家。七十年代時，顧媚放棄了如日中天的歌唱和演藝事業，全身心投入藝術創作當中。她的畫作常常描繪白雪皚皚的山脈與冬日景緻，墨彩交融、層層疊疊的寫實現代山水是其獨一無二的風格所在。藝術家曾於亞洲及北美廣泛展出作品，更於1977年獲頒香港藝術館市政局藝術獎。
