the top of rectangular outline with bracket-foliated sides, well-painted with black and brown lacquer and gilt on a red ground, the center depicting a caparisoned elephant standing foursquare supporting a howdah with a square section vase filled with flowers and auspicious emblems flanked by fruiting peach trees and rockwork issuing lingzhi all borne on a sea of stylized waves and Buddhist symbols, above a similarly-shaped spreading apron with a design of flying bats and lotus blooms, all supported on four cabriole legs painted with archaistic scrollwork joined by a stretcher at the base of conforming outline 

The stand has several small and some large chips along the edges of the top panel and apron. One corner of the top panel has a diagonal crack where the lacquer is lifting. There are further small chips and some lifting or cracked lacquer along base. The surface with clouding varnish of some kind and some small areas of old in painting and stabilizing.
