註：「抗日戰爭期間，我們國立藝術專科學校從杭州遷到雲南，又從雲南遷到四川，中途，有幾個同學不搭車，學徐霞客的樣，徒步走上雲貴高原。他們走進玉龍山，路上李霖燦同學給我寄來明信片，一面描寫見聞，另一面是用鋼筆畫的玉龍山速寫，真叫人羡慕，遺憾未能跟著去。從此，我一直嚮往玉龍山，她深深印在我的腦子裡。一九七八年我到昆明，便專程去訪玉龍。……」─ 吳冠中〈夜縛玉龍〉

畫家在「崎嶇千里訪玉龍」之旅後，就將嚮往三十餘載之玉龍山風光納入畫中，自一九七九年以降，環繞此題材之作品屢現筆下，尺幅較大者，乃狀玉龍雪山全貌，長線條勾其輪廓，大片留白呈其體形，峰巒綿延起伏，氣勢磅礡。尺幅較小者，則俯瞰麗江古城，房舍毗鄰緊接，遠景正是玉龍蓋頂。

本幅則捨喧鬧城鎮，取景叢林一角，圖中參天樹木密集相連，如封似閉，形成一堵樹牆，細水從縫隙中迸裂而出，穿越前方體積大小不一之石塊，滙成湍流，此正是遠方皚白玉龍雪山瀉下之飛瀑。畫家一九七八年初寫玉龍，亦是由此構圖入手。若與當年之〈玉龍山下瀑〉相比，本幅即循簡臻繁，精益求精，無論佈局層次之緊密、色彩運用之豐富多變，點、線、面之交織互動，在他處理相同題材上，見同曲異工之妙，畢竟乃一九八六年筆底重現矣！
