- agate and malachite
the squirrel carved recumbent with head resting on front paws, surrounded by four dates skilfully carved from the opaque inclusions of the stone, wood stand; the malachite pendant in the form a fruiting branch of pomegranate
Condition
The two pendants are in overall good condition. There is some natural pitting predominantly on the calcified area of the stone, a small cut visible on the back of the squirrel, and a tiny nick at the tip end of one of the peanuts noticeable under magnifying glass, possibly original to the carving. Its tail pierced to thread a string. There is typical light surface wear to the malachite carving, and some nibbling along the edges predominantly on the leaves on one side of the pendant.
