- coconut shell
each of the half shells deflty carved in low relief on the exterior with a continuous scene depicting three butterflies fluttering around various floral buds and blossoms, the surface patinated to a dark reddish-brown colour, the interior with a metal lining
Condition
The coconut shells have expected age cracks, some of which stabilised, and a refilled area of approx. 0.8 by 1.5 cm, together with typical insect holes, scratches and minor surface flakes to the exterior. There are also areas of oxidation and surface wear to the silver mounts. The actual colour is slightly deeper than the catalogue illustration.
