Description

  • porcelain
of rectangular section, inset with a finely painted porcelain plaque depicting a scholar wearing a long-sleeved yellow robe accompanied by an attendant holding a fan, looking at an aged man wheeling a cart, all set in a rural landscape with flowering wutong and scattered rocks, the upper right corner inscribed with a poem Yinzhong baxian ge ('The song of the Eight Immortals in Drinking') by the Tang dynasty poet Fu Du and signed with seals, the veneered frame set on a finely carved trestle stand picked out with lipped angular scrolls

Condition

Apart from some characteristic bubbling and wear to the enamels, as well as a few shallow flakes and minor scratches to the surface, the overall condition is very good. The frame has some stabilised age cracks, as well as small in-fills to three of the corners. The actual colours are slightly brighter than the catalogue illustration.
