羅傑·塔倫是一位法國工程師兼設計師，其豐富廣泛的作品對法國戰後時期的工業面貌影響深遠。他設計的產品包括相機、法國高速列車及歐洲之星列車、薩洛蒙滑雪鞋、卡西歐及LIP品牌手錶和椅子。一如他於1966年為湯姆森品牌製造出史上第一台便攜式電視機，其設計的每件產品均極具革新意義。他自1957年起開始擔任設計學教授，更是巴黎國立高等裝飾藝術學院於1963年成立的設計系創辦者之一。

塔倫以他的創新思維努力改良產品設計，以社會的便利與福祉為宗旨，設計理念與歐洲包豪斯學院所提倡的功能性美學實用主義相似。其1964年設計的M400螺旋樓梯是他的標誌性作品之一，紐約現代藝術博物館等重要博物館都相繼存入此設計產品作收藏。
