Tirage argentique ou aristotype d'époque (225 x 282 mm), contrecollé sur carton original (267 x 360 mm) portant l'adresse de l'éditeur La Photographie nouvelle, procédé H. Mairet 17 Boul. Haussmann, Paris, monté sous passe-partout d'origine et encadré. Au dos du carton, cette annotation manuscrite à l'encre noire "S. Mallarmé chez Méry Laurent".

On la voit assise, attablée avec son cher poète et ami. Sa femme de chambre Elisa, qui la sert, la regarde avec un certain amusement.
Cette photographie apparaît dans le film Les Choses de la vie de Claude Sautet, sorti en 1970 : Michel Piccoli retournant chez sa femme, Léa Massari, s'arrête devant cette photographie tout en allumant une cigarette.
