華裔畫家曾海文自小在中國成長,後僑居越南。他在1948年遷至巴黎,自此矢志繪畫,並與不少在華人社會別具影響力的藝術家交好,當中包括張大千及趙無極。七十年代是曾海文的活躍時期,創出不少巔峰作品。藝術家喜以雙聯方式創作,旨在展示「一分為二,二合為一」的意念。本幅抽象水墨畫作揉合其熱衷的道家無為簡樸思想,以及對繪畫傳統的革新貢獻。他在1973年與電影製作人Tom Tam 合作創作《曾的布吉樂》,被認為是中國藝術家製作的首部實驗短片。本作曾在短片中亮相,其複本自2002年起為法國巴黎現代藝術博物館收藏。

註:畫背貼有香港德薩畫廊標籤,並曾在曾海文於1973年拍攝的實驗性電影《曾的布吉樂》中出鏡;本作品將刊載於由Philippe Koutouzis編寫的藝術家全集中,編號為S14-LDI-20。(資料由曾海文檔案庫提供。)
