Condition
The robe is in overall very good condition. There are areas of loss to the gold thread on the body and leg of the lower right hand dragon and to the leg of the central dragon on the back of the robe as well as one cloud wisp. There are some small losses and areas where the gold thread has been restitched at a later point on the lower left hand dragon on the front. There are loose threads to some parts of the embroidered and some small areas where the satin stitching may have been restitched at a later point.
The satin is woven with five-clawed dragon roundels, the satin a wonderful golden green colour, the colours of the waves, ruyi and rollers on the border vibrant, the quality of the stitching and detail beautiful. The shou-characters in three different tones of blue. Bears resemblance to the famous robes discovered in the tomb of Guo Qingwang (died 1738), seventeenth son of Kangxi emperor.
