Overall the condition of the amber is very good with minor dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. Amber is relatively fragile and so the present object is in surprisingly good condition as there are few losses or restorations. The arms and top of the crucifix may be reattached and there is a metal nut at the base of the top of the crucifix. There could potentially be further restorations. Christ's hands and the nails are lost. There is some clouding and craquelure to the amber consistent with the material. There are a few small chips. The crucifix is made in sections and so, naturally, joints are visible. There is a beautiful paper lining inside the chapel and in the baldachins and under the base. The case is very well constructed and there is general wear.

以珍貴的琥珀為材的宗教祈禱物品在十七世紀甚受歡迎，現存最早期的有玫瑰經念珠，其工藝於比利時布魯日及德國呂貝克完成；原材料則來自歐洲琥珀的主要產地波羅的海。琥珀呈美麗晶瑩的橙色及黃色，而且對人體有神秘的療效，長久以來一直被視作珍稀貴重之物。在十七至十八世紀，歐洲貴族不只是虔敬的教徒，對科學和自然的興趣亦與日趨增；而琥珀奇妙非凡的特質使它最適合用以製作個人的宗教信物。

除了珍貴獨特的琥珀，本品飾以精緻的象牙浮雕、如火焰般圍繞十字架展開飛舞的琥珀垂花結彩、精雕細琢的所羅門式紐紋柱、軸心為木，顯示本品出自十七世紀後半期的但澤（現今波蘭格但斯克）。聖壇的另一美麗特色是優雅的階梯式造型，最下層是一個內室，室門兩旁各垂一片織錦；室內有一跪地祈禱側身人像，地面是打磨光亮的木材和象牙。人像前後各有一扇透明橙色琥珀窗子，光源流入小室內，形成一道金色的光芒直照內堂。
