with an oval centred by a ribboned pearl necklace with a border of tulips, carnations, bluebells and other flowers and leaves with three caterpillars, the angles with birds on a fruiting branch, two with cherries, two with pears, fourth angle with a parrot, all on a black marble ground within a later rectangular gilt-bronze frame

Condition
In overall very good conserved condition. The choice of the stones is most attractive. There are some old very minor restorations to the black marble ground as visible from the catalogue photograph. There are also some very minor chips some of which have been filled. The sixth pearl from the left has obviously been replaced whilst the others seem to have a different appearance probably due to the foil backing having oxidized. There are some old very minor marks and scratches to the gilt-bronze border.

此精妙雅致之畫匾於佛羅倫薩大公爵工坊（Florentine Grand Ducal Workshops）的彩色硬石鑲嵌作坊（Opificio della Pietre Dure）製作，其於十七及十八世紀，帶領硬石馬賽克工藝邁進巔峰時期。此類畫匾以各式大理石及半寶石拼出細緻圖案，在歐洲上流社會風靡一時，更對曾壯遊佛羅倫薩的貴族意義尤重，視之為頂級珍寶。它們一般用作大型桌面，有些則鑲於大櫃。而是次呈獻的畫匾相信是經常框上，且獨立擺設，如同欣賞一幅立體畫作，而當中珍珠鏈子的圖案展現出當時追求華麗風格與異國色彩的藝術品味，更於十八世紀成為硬石工作室之裝飾設計範本，可見本品確實在眾多重要作品中脫穎而出，價值非凡。
