此碟尺寸比一般大許多，與文藝復興時代烏爾比諾大公從西班牙所訂製的著名大圓碟系列非常相似。此系列的設計出自著名的塔迪奧·蘇卡洛（Taddeo Zuccaro），每個碟上不同的圖案描繪凱撒大帝的生平事蹟；1562年被進獻給西班牙國王。該系列的原作已佚，但設計圖得以保留並繼續使用。至今，同樣繪有如此戲劇性的格鬥士戰鬥畫面的馬略爾卡陶器（maiolica pieces）僅餘另外四件：一件水甕、三件碟，其中兩件為公開收藏，另一件為私人收藏。
