Condition

Each sheet has been laid on cardboard. The sheets with Grenadier and Ordonnances have been mounted onto the same piece of cardboard. The sheets have discoloured. The surface is slightly dirty and there are handling marks. Some of the edges are uneven. Three works are framed, the rest are unframed. Unexamined out of frame.

The two-act opera War and Peace based on Tolstoy’s novel was composed in 1942 by Sergei Prokofiev in collaboration with Mira Mendelson. First performed at the Maly Theatre in Leningrad in 1946, performances of the opera were also well-received in Europe and the United States.

The present lot comprises costume designs for De Bausset; Ordonnances; Grenadier; General Gerard; Ural Cossack; Napoleon; Cossack officer and an officer.
