The two-act opera War and Peace based on Tolstoy’s novel was composed in 1942 by Sergei Prokofiev in collaboration with Mira Mendelson. First performed at the Maly Theatre in Leningrad in 1946, performances of the opera were also well-received in Europe and the United States.

The present lot comprises costume designs for a Don Cossack; French Grenadier; Marechal Davout; Aide de camp d'Etat-Major; French Cuirassier; Adjutant of Prince Eugene Boharnais; Marshall Caulincourt and General Bellard.
