George Albert Frost was an American artist educated in Antwerp who accompanied the explorer George Kennan on an expedition to Siberia in 1885 to record the lives of exiles in the Russian Empire. The sketches and drawings produced on the trip were used to illustrate the resultant two volume 1891 publication Siberia and the Exile System written by Kennan. The present group includes various drawings relating to the Decembrists along with landscapes and portrait studies.
