Robert spent over five years in Italy, arriving in Rome in 1759 from Paris. This charming scene depicts a couple with their child resting in the gardens of a Roman villa. Robert has chosen an architectural fantasy as his backdrop and whilst it is broadly reminiscent of various known villas, this view is a capriccio.
