The work CMYK Bucket Splash asserts tremendous emphasis on the medium-specificity of the work and the process of making art. CMYK, which is short for Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Key (Black), is the fundamental process colors for printing. The full color wheel can be attained by the combinations of these four basic hues. Using only the base palette of mechanical color reproduction to create this abstract work, Arin allows the element of chance to take full effect, while also embracing the industrial feel of the current time. In bold and swift movements, Arin pours the liquid resin onto a flat surface; twisting and dancing with the colors until the surface has been artfully covered. What is ultimately displayed is in fact the underside of the work. Arin captures the paints in midst of action; as the resin melts and coalesce into one another, they combine to produce secondary colors. As the resin dries, the multi-layers produce a dynamic and sophisticated effect on the final composition.
