of rectangular form, the pear-shaped body rising from a splayed foot to a waisted neck and slightly flared mouth, the four sides separated by subtly protruding vertical ridges, each side divided into four quadrants by horizontal ridges, each quadrant enclosing archaistic motifs including upright cicada leaves, leiwen and linked-coin motifs, the neck flanked by a pair of tubular arrow handles with a leiwen band, the foot bordered with panels of archaistic scrolls

The base has possibly been re-fixed. Other than minor surface wear and bruises, good condition.

The body of this flower vase is attractively cast in a most detailed fashion in a range of designs which are now considered typical of some Song / Yuan dynasty bronzes. The design is extremely fine and the textile-like quality is a feature only fully appreciated under magnification
